Region 4 CCM underway

The Coordinating Committee Meeting (CCM), held every two months by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) started earlier today at the Region Four Education Directorate, Mansakonko.

The opening ceremony was witnessed by senior government officials including Fatou Lamin Faye, Honourable Minister, MoBSE, Permanent Secretary, MoBSE, Mr. Baboucarr Bouy, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ebrima Sissawo, Governor, Lower River Region and Lamin Darboe. Representatives from the NGO and other relevant stakeholders in the sector were also there.

The meeting started with congratulations to the Permanent Secretary, MoBSE, for his recent Jit Gill Memorial Award for Outstanding Public Service by the World Bank.

“I wish to express the ministry’s gratitude, joy and happiness as we celebrate your welcome home from your recent Jit Gill Memorial Award for Outstanding Public Service in the USA, through the World Bank,” said Ernestina Small, a staff of the records office of MoBSE.

She described PS Bouy as a gentleman, humble and down to earth with all the good qualities every good God fearing person would want to have, adding that he is very hardworking and dedicated to duty.

“If you try to find fault in him, you will finally end up giving up because you will never find any. Furthermore, it is indeed particularly gratifying to distinguish his work performance from others,” she said.

She commended everyone who in their various ways have contributed to the realisation of this Award. “Your collective efforts deserved commendation. Let us therefore wish ourselves success as we continue to work with our ‘Awardee’,” she added.

Declaring the meeting open, Lamin Darboe, Governor, Lower River Region, who declared the meeting open acknowledged the fact that CCM has been a forum for the exchange of positive ideas in the education sector.

“I have been informed that the Coordinating Committee Meeting ( CCM) was conceived in the early 1990’s and held in every two months rotating from one region to the other where senior educationists and partners converge to look at policy and program implementation with the ultimate aim of identifying its success and shortcomings,” he said.

He added that “diagnosing policy visa – vie teaching and learning in schools are essential ingredients in CCM.

“I will not therefore, hesitate to describe the CCM as Participatory Review and Reflection Process of your intentions bearing in mind that quality education will not be compromised at all cost,” he highlighted.

“As erudite educationist, your task is daunting because it involves nurturing good morals, inculcating the desire for teaching of pupils and above all ensuring that students at Basic & Secondary level are adequately grounded for tertiary education.

“Our Leader, Sheikh Professor Dr. Alh. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh has created the enabling environment and has umpteen times said that the sky is the limit for all his development interventions and education is key in that crusade.

“The onus now lies on us as citizens of this country to ensure that our commitment, dedication and unflinching loyalty to the Government are pursued at all times and at all angels,” he noted.

Honourable Minister of MoBSE expressed delight in working with PS Bouy, describing him as a patriotic Gambian. She said the award is recognition of the immense sacrifice and work that Mr. Bouy has done for humanity.

She thanked President Jammeh for creating the environment for Gambians to use their ingenuity to develop the country. She urged all the leaders in the sector to motivate their staff. “You need to create the environment for people to do the right things at the right time,” she concluded.

The meeting will end of Friday 18 May, 2012.
